This is a case of the nearly blind leading the almost blind...a relative wants me to help her shop for a cordless phone system to replace a corded phone that's dying.

All she requires is that it have an answering machine built in...I don't think she subscribes to Caller ID or Call Waiting. I think she'd want two handsets -- the main 'station' plus another one for the bedroom or LR.

Recommended brands? Anything to watch for/avoid? She'd want to see them, so which brick-and-mortar store is best? Best Buy? Where are we least likely to get some pushy sales clerk who wants to upsell to some fancier model with all the doodads she doesn't want?

As you may have suspected by now, this is not a fun shopping venture for either of us. Not to mention getting it home and out of the box and "set up". Arrrggggh.

Many thanks for input!

I've used VTech systems for years and years. Available at Best Buy. Love 'em.

Just sayin'...

Ronnie

Just looked at Consumer Reports ratings, VTech holds 3 of the top 4 rated cordless phone systems.

I'd go to either Fry's or Best Buy to check them out. I'd probably end up ordering it from Amazon.

Read the reviews on Amazon.com. I bought a simple GE cordless phone that is still kicking five years later. I have also had luck with V-Tech.
