Okay in the continuing exploits of us finding dogs in East Limestone, we now have a new friend. We call her Lucy, but the "owner" calls her Momma.

About a week ago we found this dog in our neighborhood, the neighbors said it was hanging around since the tornado, and then told us that Momma is a yard dog for a family in the nearby trailer park. We put her on a leash and walked her over to the trailer park.

We found the owner "Is this your dog?" - "YEAH, come here Momma"

that was it.

So we went home, and as we turned the corner, we see Momma coming around us. Since then Momma has been living on our street. Going from the neighbors to our home, but apparently the neighbors have decided that Momma is our dog. We have tried to bring her back several times, but she keeps coming back. We finally broke down and fed her on Friday night, well that was that - now she's sleeping on our porch.

We have no idea what to do with this one, the owner doesn't seem to care. She's a yard dog, so putting her in our back yard makes her a bit antsy.

Any ideas?

By the way, she's a great dog. Sweet as can be, friendly, but needs a bath. Looks part beagle.

I would say give her a bath, get her some shots, and a collar. She will probably be your best friend for life.

We already have that best friend, but he does get along with Lucy. Looks like she needs some dental work as well.

The vet may be able to tell if she's been spayed and if not, you might want to have that done at the same time as the dental - check out Spay USA or Friends of Animals as they may discount (not sure if they're in your area). Thx for taking her in, what a lucky pup. Now you have 2 best friends ;-)

If you feel you are unable to keep her, contact MARF (Madison Animal Rescue Foundation) or Peace Love and Animals (Athens area). Both are non profits that foster dogs and find adoptive parents, GREAT organizations! They could find her a new home if the owners don't seem to care what happens to her. Poor thing! Thankfully it seems she has been lucky enough to find your family to take care of her!

well Lucy has made herself at home with us. Peace Love and Animals gave her a bath for us, and were so sweet.

So it appears we will be keeping Lucy, I can't call her Momma.

Way to go FCEddie! Lucy will only benefit and I'm sure she will return the favor in love and dedication to you.

Remember: When no one else loves you, your dog will always love you!

Lucy and Dino seem to be getting along fairly well, but he does appear to be a bit put out by her presence some times. He also gives her grief when they go out for their walks, Mom goes first, then Dino, then Lucy - that is the pack order. She tries to jump ahead of everyone, Dino does not tolerate her insolence.

Dino is the alpha dog, which is logical since he was "here first!" And we think children are the only ones who play this game.
