I was looking at the City Data map for Huntsville, and I recognized that the neighborhood across the street from the Kroger on Oakwood Avenue had a yearly income of $56,891. Now, I'm not trying to be rude or putting people down that live there, I live near there, but I know there's no way in hell that neighborhood has a yearly income that high. I used to have some friends that lived there and we happened to get into conversations about salary, just out of boredom I guess. I knew multiple people there and they said their homes all made around 20k-30k. There were these two brothers I knew, Damien and Darren. We were just talking about life and stuff one day, and they thought my parents were rich , because my parents combined income was $35-37k. We aren't friends now, because that night they came to my house and stole games and $5 from me, that was a lot back when I was 9 or 10 and that was all my money. My mom told there mom,who was an escort and she go really pissed at them. She caught them flushing all the stuff they stole down the toilet, I think all I got back was one or two games. They eventually moved, because they must've felt like outcasts, because they tried to steal from my friends too. Those kids never came outside when my friends were out. They must've feared they'd get beat up or something, but anyway. Back to the point. There's another neighborhood off Mountain Gap Road and it says that neighborhood makes around $35,755 Now I think we all know that's B.S. My brother has friends there and they are all married people for the most part, who are engineers and people who work on the arsenal. I'm not trying to stereotype these neighborhoods because of a few people, but I just think errors like this on the map need to be fixed. It can be very confusing for someone new to Huntsville, AL.

All the data on city data is culled from the self reporting census forms. So, it is as accurate as you can get, perhaps the neighborhoods have changed in the intervening years.

I dropped a pin in Google Streetview and looked at the area. Looks more like the elderly than the working poor. A mint condition 2003 Crown Vic in every driveway. (Not really.)

60k isn't that much if you are at the end or past the end of your work career and have a pension (used to be common) that has COLA built into it.

I used to have a few guys that worked for me that live in that area on Oakwood. They make above $50k per year.

Was that on Bluebird Ave, Canary Street, Cardinal Avenue, and Country Club Avenue

I looked on the Zillow website. I am not quite sure exactly what area you are looking at because it makes a difference. I looked at the values placed on homes on Oakwood Avenue between Pulaski Pike and Blue Spring Road. A rough estimate of the average values is:
North of Oakwood = $100,000-$200,000
South of Oakwood = $50,000-$60,000

The area is South of Oakwood Avenue, North of University Drive, West of Memorial Parkway, and East of Pulaski Pike.

Yea, It's possible that Canterbury could bring in a middle class income, but as for Canary Street, Bluebird Avenue, Cardinal Avenue, and Dunham Avenue/Oglesby Drive.... They seem to look more rundown and poorer. It's location generally, they're also close to club focus on Country Club Avenue.
