Take a look at Wildwood. The beach is gone.

The true cost of Irene's death toll and destruction will not be known until she is also dead. Then like the forecast it will only be a guesstimate.

12"-20" of rain is predicted for the Long Island and Lower Manhattan area. In addition, as the storm moves into this area the storm surge is supposed to be around 8 foot high on the Hudson River.

If you have a boat docked at the Manhattan Yacht Club I wish you luck...because you will need it. If you live in Battery Park I'd suggest you stay with family or friends somewhere inland on higher ground.

This could get very, very interesting as the storm makes its way northward toward rain drenched soil, thousands upon thousands of acres of concrete, tall buildings and many millions of people.

Nothing is more frightening to me than threat of tornados. I have seen a big one, in Illinois once, as a child. I would evacuate just to be away from the threat of that alone.

I don't call this hype. Period. End of statement.

The hurricane had an enormous wingspan -- 500 miles, its outer reaches stretching from the Carolinas to Cape Cod -- and packed wind gusts of 115 mph. (http://www.foxnews.com/weather/2011/08/27/hurricane-irene-makes-landfall-in-north-carolina/ - broken link)

Yesterday those six people had their whole lives in front of them. Who will explain the hype to their loved ones?
