GM needs to re tune all of its DI 3.6 for a bit more low end torque and then 300HP will feel more like it. I just traded in my 09 G6GXP with the 252HP 3.6L for a 2012 Impala LTZ with 302HP and the G6 is as quick or quicker due to gearing.
Well yeah..the G6 was known to get 0-60 in under 6 seconds. And correct me if I'm wrong but the Impala probably weighs more than the G6 too. But I agree with the torque opinion.
Let's not lose sight of the fact that GM like everyone else has ever-tightening emissions and fuel economy targets to meet. "Quick off the line" isn't a particularly big priority in most segments right now. And at any rate if you want a car as sprightly as your G6 apparently was, you're not going to find it in the big FWD cruiser segment occupied by the likes of the Impala, Avalon, ES350, Azera, etc. A Buick Regal GS more fits that bill these days.
Well, I've owned both cars and I'll take the Genesis any day of the week. I can't speak for the current Impala or the current Genesis. I currently drive the 2011 Genesis and I love it. It's very roomy and refined. I wished they had AWD on this modal. I will stick with the Genesis and get the AWD model whenever I decide to trade.

Yeah, in reagrds to weight, G6 GXP is 3545 lbs vs 3649 lbs for the Impala LTZ. But the 3.6L Torque 252@3200 vs 264 @5300 in the 3.6L DI is a big difference. Im not obsessed with 0-60, but when I hit the gas the car needs to go without waiting for 5000rpm or having to floor it all the time.
Huyndais and Kia are both made by the same company and have same quality levels, as they largely use the same parts, though there's no Kia equivalent to the Genesis, pretty much every other model is just a sporterized model of the Hyundai equivalent

Im actually pretty aware of Kia and Hyundais relationship. I actually worked for Hyundai in the development of the new Genesis. Thats why I had to ask the question. Because in reality they are two completely different companies that share no production or assembly facilities or employees at all. While it is true that both the percieved and actually quality of both have improved over the years they share nothing in company structure or communication/development any moreso than any other two seperate auto manufacturers. They share very few bits of hardware and absolutely no software and operate as two completely dfferent companies, of which Hyundai owns barely 30% of Kia, which is much less a percentage than they have owned many years ago.
So this increase in quality for Kia the poster that I originally quoted spoke of is really from overall competition and not so much to with the Genesis or the fact that the manufacture of the Genesis bought a stake in them. Many people mistakenly assume alot of how these two do business in relation to each other because of the minority ownership.
