Corvette, V8 Mustangs and Camaros, Infiniti G35/G37 coupes, etc.....the Manual trans tends to be more desirable than the automatic version.
Those are enthusiast cars and there definitely is a large number of enthusiasts that still are purists for the stick and clutch pedal. When it comes to everyday economy and family cars - and I'll bet they move more units with stick-shifts than the enthusiast cars do, not in percentage but at least in raw numbers - the resale possibility hurts a lot.
It is street legal, but I'm sure it's not driven around town. No one is going to waste that horsepower (not to mention gas) going to Dunkin Donuts.
The SuperStock designation tells the true story. If it is driven regularly around town, I'd like to swap my portfolio with his/hers.
It was driven to that car show. And I've seen it at other car shows (there are quite a few weekly car gatherings in my area).
If it's driven once a week, to a car show maybe 4-5 miles away, it won't use that much fuel.
Anyway, I'm sure the owner doesn't have any less enjoyment out of it because it has an automatic transmission.
I actually know someone who owns a '72 Plymouth Duster with a built 360 engine. It gets about 10 mpg on the highway, but only 5-7 mpg on the street, yet he does drive it weekly (to car shows).

Fleet, as long as the owner is happy, I'm happy for him/her.
I preferred a manual for the several sports cars I owned over the years. Yes, it was a PITA in traffic, but the enjoyment from driving on the highway, or on a road course, was well worth the trade off of driving in traffic.

For me, a stick was the way to go. Others' MMV.
As I said, freedom of choice.
But the "no real man drives an auto" posts are silly.

Agree. Meant it as an expression, not an absolute.
Mea culpa.
