District #25 in Pocatello / Chubbuck has allowed kids and their families to choose which high school they want to attend for a little over 10 years now.

Apparently this is ending for current 8th graders who WOULD HAVE been choosing their schools next month. (So the Class of 2022 will be the first to have to stick to its neighborhood boundaries).

The District has only released news of a "study committee" to the media, but when you read their minutes on the District website it's pretty apparent that it's happening and happening soon.

A few school boundaries are set to change as well. The Johnny Creek and Country Club Drive areas have been zoned Pocatello High School for many years, but those neighborhoods are now going to be Century HS neighborhoods (apparently a huge number of students from that area have been attending Century anyway). The other big boundary change is that all of West Chubbuck (i.e., anything west of Hawthorne Road and South of Reservation road in Chubbuck) will now be zoned Pocatello High School instead of Highland. This is likely the change that will send many a 14 year old and their families in to stress -- there are LOTS of have-truck-will-go-to-Highland folks out that way .

I won't go on and on, but I wanted to post this since I had typed out a missive about our high school choices here in Pocatello a year or so ago.
