I maybe getting an interview with a job in Pocatello. We currently live in So Cal.

What’s it like in Pocatello? Are people generally friendly? What about LDS community? We are christian. Will that be an issue making friends?

Looking forward to hear your thoughts!

While very small compared to where you live, Pocatello (or poky for short) is one of the larger cities in southeast Idaho. It is nestled in the Portneuf River valley encroaching the foothills in almost every direction. I personally would say poky is the friendliest community around. Mormons are really nice people, its only in really small towns you might have trouble making friends. Pocatello is an industrial city with a lot of blue collar jobs. If it were me, I would definitely visit first for a few days to make sure you would want to live there or to see other nearby communities that you might like better.

I lived in Poky for three years about 11 years ago. I prefer it to Idaho Falls (which I was forced to move to for work).

Pocatello is more scenic than IF as it is in a bowl almost completely surrounded by low mountains. Poky also is a bit warmer than IF on average.

Pocatello is more quirky as well, probably because it is the location of Idaho State University. The LDS influence is present, but not the same as IF.

The two are considered part of the same media market though they are 50 miles apart.

Btw, LDS is based on Christian faith. But I am not LDS, just have lived in LDS areas over the years.

Hmm not sure I agree with that. IF has a larger population plus bigger suburban areas. Traffic is not an issue in either. I think you need to look closer at the stats.

Pocatello is favorable to IF by many metrics. I live in Idaho falls because it is the center of economic activity in the region. More money, more going on.

I never posted that, but for clarity here are the stats:

Pocatello population: 56,637 (2019), county population 87,808
Idaho Falls population: 62,888 (2019), county population 119,062

It should be noted that Idaho Falls is recognized as an MSA, with a population just north of 130,000 when Rexburg/Rigby is included. (2010), probably 133-135K today.

Pocatello also ranks as an MSA with a population of 87K+, the same as the county population.

Blackfoot in between is the step child of the area, not included in either the Pocatello or Idaho Falls metro, but probably should be included in Poky, as it is only 25 miles north of Pocatello.
