The wife and myself will be in the Clark Fork area in may around the 9th, just wondered if anything special is going on that week?

Cabbie,
Here's what's happening in Clark Fork in May:
CalendarWiz Welcome
You're in luck, the Crafty Ladies are meeting on May 9, and on May 10 there's Pinochle at the Senior Center.
In addition to that there will be ospreys starting their nests on the Clark Fork Bridge, the river will be rising with all the melting snow, there'll be awkward moose yearlings to watch out for, the snow will still be covering the peaks of the Cabinets, the air will be clean, flowers will be coming out, and people will get together at the Ace Hardware Store with spring fingers itching to start projects...The Squeeze Inn restaurant will probably be open for dinner, and the cafes in town will serve great breakfasts. Life will be good....... (Can you tell I'm homesick? )

You probably won't be able to stay on until May 19-21 when the Lost in the Fifties event takes place in Sandpoint.
Summer events haven't really started yet--but here are some nice things for you to do:
Have dinner at the Floating Restaurant in Hope, if it's open for business.
Do eat at the Squeeze Inn! Always an interesting menu.
Drive to Ross Creek Cedars in Montana, about 40 minutes from CF, maybe less: go east on 200, then north on 56. It's a spectacular drive, and a branch of the Bull River should be running high through the giant cedars. Watch for bears and mountain lions, though.
Check if the Scotchman Peaks trails are open (= no snow), and take a fantastic hike up in the heights.
Drive a beautiful loop into Montana: First, stop at the Clark Fork Bridge and walk across the old bridge and take pictures (watch for those ospreys), then drive east on River Road all the way to the MT border, and on. The road becomes the Clark Fork Road. The scenery is breathtaking, with a full view of the Cabinets. Stop for lunch at the Amber Bear Inn, a fabulous inn and restaurant--you'll see the signs (remember that Montana is on Mountain Time, while North Idaho is on Pacific Time). Turn toward the river at Heron and cross the old bridge, and then drive back to Clark Fork on 200, stopping at the Cabinet Gorge Dam--a spectacular place.
You can also explore the Hope Peninsula, the site of the first trading post in the region, and fancy cabins + a local herd of almost-tame deer wandering among the homes.
It's probably not warm enough yet to rent a boat in Hope and do some exploring of Lake Pend Oreille, but the drive to Sandpoint and back along the lake is beautiful.
There is a really nice art gallery in Hope, the Hope Market Cafe. Here are some pictures from Hope:
Hope, Idaho Quick Pic Gallery, Pictures and Photos of Hope, ID
You can also check out my Clark Fork pics in one of my albums.

If yoy're interested in staying at a guest ranch, I'd recommend the Diamond T Guest Ranch on River Road. Each guest room has a list of activities in the area + great trails for hiking.

Have a wonderful time, and good luck with the weather!

Thanks for all the info, dont think we want to stay at a guest ranch, costs to much for just showering and sleeping, plan to stay busy with lots of things to do while were there. And you provided lots of interesting things to do. Thanks again..

You're welcome! Diamond T is actually not that much more expensive than a regular motel.

Anyway, I assume you know all about all the great things to see and do in and around Sandpoint! 25 miles from Clark Fork. Also, watch for moose on the road in the early morning and evening hours, not just because they're fascinating, but because hitting one may total your car!
