This year is the 150th anniversary of Idaho Territory! It was mentioned in the True West April 2013 issue, and there is a great picture from 1863 of the local hangout in Emmett, the Payette Ranch, a spread on p.2-3. If you know of any events celebrating the anniversary, post them here! I'll see if I can find any online. Congrats, Idaho!

Congratulations Idaho! Looks like we'll be moving in time for the festivities, and I can't wait to be a part of them.

There is a specialty license plate honoring this, (of course at extra cost).

Idaho Territory license plates on sale

Idaho probably could use a design change on its general issue plates, as well. The current color/graphic scheme goes back to 1987, as a specialty, and then the general issue in 1991. Since then, some minor revisions, but a new look would be welcomed by this driver. Perhaps something a little more understated. IMO, the current general issue plates are too bold and do not represent a very laid back state that needs to stand out with their plates. Just an opinion. Of course, changing a plate design does cost money, and many states don't do this for this very reason. (Oregon, California come to mind).

Fun year ahead. It is also Boise's Sesquicentennial, our capitol city is 150 years old.

Default when are celebrations

Are celebrations being planned around that time (July 3rd) other than for the fourth? Just curious, because the wife and I were considering a ten day visit over that time frame.

Hearty congratulations to all of you in Idaho!

We in California have had our current license plate design since about 1994 or thereabouts; I much prefer Idaho's, I have to say! The very newest ones give the website address for the California DMV at the bottom, and are just too minimalist for my taste.

Thanks for sharing the links. We were planning to visit in the middle of summer, but our hotel of choice in Pocatello is completely booked up for two solid months. So it's going to be after Labor Day, I suppose. But we hope to have about ten days to explore Poky, IF, Rex, and Twin Falls.

I assume days will be still moderately warm while evenings get quite a bit cooler?

I'm planning to drive from Texas and my wife will fly in to IF or Poky, but I believe it would be highly unusual for any significant weather to occur in early September--not impossible, just unlikely?

Grats to all of Idaho for doing your own thing for 150 years!

September is usually nice in East Idaho. No heatwave, but nice warm days, and cool nights. A great time to visit.

For sure! My favorite time of year is late September to early October. Indian summer is gorgeous here.
