The US is an economic powerhouse, and immigrants (legal and illegal) flock here from Mexico for opportunity. However, the popular argument on this board against immigration is that these people will then vote to rejoin Mexico ("Balkanization"). Why would someone spend money and/or sneak into another country and then vote to be back in their old one?

I don't recall that being a popular argument in here. The argument is that illegal immigration is against the law and that it hurts our own citizens in many ways. You may be speaking of the Reconquista mindset but even their agenda isn't to rejoin Mexico but to take this country for their own or at least parts of it.
You might want to look up the word balkanization in the dictionary as it is about several ethnic groups in a country remaining separate in culture and language from the others, not the definition of it that you are using.
it's mostly from the younger ones who did not come here voluntarily but were brought here by their parents.
I've seen a few in the schools. The older teens are especially angry and talk about going back home when they get old enough.

It seems to me you've posted this to the wrong forum.
I doubt many Mexican Americans advocate backing Mexico. I think that some advocate an open border and unrestricted immigration if anything. The majority of all (legal) immigrants come from mexico so it is understandable why they would want a relationship more akin to the one we share with Canada. The reality is that Canadians are more comparable to the USA in terms of education, language, culture and standard of living. Canadian tourists typically go home at the end of their vacation. We don't have 6 million Canadians here illegally and for a good reason. Their home country is comparable to our own.
The fact that 6 million plus illegals, over half of all illegals come from Mexico is what makes Mexico a problem for the USA. Some cry foul when you address the issue. Numbers don't lie.
Now why do so many hispanics apparently support immigration reform as proposed by the Dems? Because it benefits them and their families and friends. The group that will benefit the most are hispanics. An estimated 56% of illegals come from mexica another 23% from all other latin American countries. All others account for the rest. Is it any surprise which voice is the loudest in the demand for reform which is a thinly veiled Amnesty?
Imagine if you never paid your taxes for 10 years. What would you face?
Imagine if you committed document fraud for 10 years. What would you face?
Imagine a legal immigrant caught working without the proper green card? What would they face?
Imagine a legal immigrant caught doing any of the above. What would they face?
Yet some feel that illegals deserve a virtual free pass for their crimes.

When their first act is to violate our laws that pretty much defines who they are.
