San Diego Fence Provides Lessons in Border Control : NPR

Today, Henry is assistant chief of the Border Patrol's San Diego sector. He says apprehensions here are down 95 percent, from 100,000 a year to 5,000 a year, largely because the single strand of cable marking the border was replaced by double — and in some places, triple — fencing.

Triple fencing seems like a good idea, especially if they are very close together making it difficult to catch your breath to climb the second fence.

Walls, Fences, Moats and any other barrier both natural and man made has served for centuries to keep things in as well as out. SO why wouldn't a 3 layered fence work as well? The cable that once marked the border was ridiculous.

Illegal crossings are down as a whole since Trump took office because the word is getting out that the US is once again going to enforce its immigration laws. Wouldn't it be great if we didn't have to dump billions into building a giant wall when instead we could build something smaller/cheaper and patrol it with electronic security means.

If apprehensions in the Liberal Sanctuary state of California is down that must mean that illegal border crossings are way down in the states that are tougher on the trespassers.

I know I don't see people hanging around in parking lots harassing everyone coming and going. My wife and daughter say they feel safe driving my truck to home depot now without worrying about being approached.

as should always be the case.

Multiple layers of fencing, tilted inward better yet, are a great idea.

Yes, the San Diego/Tijuana wall (fence) does work very well. Invasion cheerleaders always seem to forget that it was Bill Clinton who had that barrier built. Or maybe they do remember it was Bubba but it doesn't fit their narrative that border walls are a waste of money and don't work.

Anyone who against border walls/fences must have a dog in this fight. There is no other reason for them to have apoplexy over this issue.

At least one of the bids submitted included plans for that design.

It's funny this thread would be started by someone that calls themselves "angry taxpayer".

We cover this in thread after thread but yet it continues. There is a far easier and more cost effective way to handle this. Enforce our laws.

What we have here is a government that simply refuses to enforce our laws but wants taxpayers to pony up billions to address a problem they refuse to.

When is the government going to enforce our laws and go after those hiring those here illegally?

They are enforcing the laws now, and yes I am enjoying the work of ICE, who is finally being allowed to do its job.
