An immigrant man with five children and a pregnant wife said Monday he was granted a last-minute stay of deportation after he sought sanctuary in a church saying he needed to remain in the United States to support his family, including a 5-year-old son with leukemia.

Berrones said his legal problems began in 2006 when he was 19 and arrested for driving with a fake license and he voluntarily returned to Mexico. He re-entered the country illegally twice after that to rejoin his family.

His 24-year-old wife, Sonia Garcia, and their children are American citizens. Their son Jayden was diagnosed with leukemia in 2016 and is undergoing a three-year course of chemotherapy.

"In an exercise of discretion, ICE has granted Jesus Armando Berrones-Balderas a one-year stay of removal on humanitarian grounds," said a statement issued Monday evening by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement office in Phoenix. "ICE issued a previous one-year stay in June 2016."

This here is a pure example of failure , and abuse of our immigration system. This guy has 5 kids, 1 that is sick and requires expensive treatments . He's been arrested, deported etc..... Has another kid thats on the way. His wife does not work. They are probably all on on welfare . Whats the difference if he is deported or not?

So the white middle class is paying for people like this to eventually be replaced? When is enough , enough?

So let the felon stay but send home people without a record who just have removal orders. Fascinating

He is a felon having re-entered illegally. He needs to be removed. I see his father has already been removed, so he'll know someone when he gets there, will speak the language, returned there once on his own previously.........seems to be in good shape for a return.

Interesting, the mother can't work because she has to go on medical appointments. Really? As a mother of a child with special needs, and therefore, having been in a community of mothers with children that had numerous appointments, they managed to work.

In what city does cleaning air conditions ducts pay to support a family with 5 kids, and one that is ill. I suspect all the kids and mother get welfare and Medicaid, and his job was probably enough to pay for his support only, so there won't be much loss there.

I am sick of their whining and using their children for an excuse to not live within the laws, and tired of these people have 5 or 6 kids for us to pay for while citizens can't even afford 2 kids anymore because of the billions that illegal aliens are costing our country.

Send him home. If the family cares about him, they'll go with him. He'll probably abandon them eventually anyway when a younger and more fertile woman comes his way.

I looked for another article: Phoenix Father Faces Deportation as Wife Is Pregnant and 5-Year-Old Son Battles Leukemia | Inside Edition

Per the article:

"He has been ordered out of the county twice before, in 2006 and 2010, and both times he managed to sneak back in, once by crossing the Arizona desert." So, after being ordered out twice.............yeah, send him home!

I read a number of articles, boy, they really work to blur the reality. Playing the "sick" child angle is pathetic. A lot of people in prison have children that are sick and/or need to be at home to bring in money to support the family, but since they aren't a huge voting block...........

Send him home. He was ordered twice out of the country, his wages are nothing but "chicken feed" and not supporting the family. Who do they think they are kidding?

We should deport both. Most that don't have a criminal record are using a fake or stolen SS number to work or working for cash evading taxes but just haven't been caught yet.

?
Im so sick of these Illegals thinking just because they pop out a few kids over here , that they are entitled to stay because of humane reasons. The problem here is that this guy is having the US taxpayers fund his entire family. He has 6 friggin kids and is illegal? His anchor babies are nothing but "insurance" for him. He doesn't care what happens to them , all he cares about is himself. He knows that US taxpayers will fund his entire family , so what is the difference if he is gone?

You have to wonder about this "job" that he has, since he did not have a right to work in the USA.

This is simply another story showing that the ones coming in illegally will do anything to try to stay including marry and impregnating, again and again, hoping that will save them. Then, using the sick child like this. LOTS OF PEOPLE have children who are sick, and don't expect the laws to change for them. This illegal knew full well what his status was before he started impregnating this woman again and again, since this goes back to 2006.

This illegal alien was in trouble well before this 5 year old was born.

And, I still would like to see a copy of their budget. They should write a book on how to support a family of what, it will be 8, on the salary of someone who cleans air conditioning ducts for a living.

I believe that those given stays of deportation are given a permit and SSN

But, didn't he just get that with his one year reprieve coming forward? He has broken the law more than once, thus the reason they were ordering him deported. He was working it though by having one kid after another and marrying a US citizen. I often wonder what these citizens have for brains when they take up with illegal aliens and have all of these kids. It takes a certain "class" of person to do this.

Unsure, I’m just answering how he may have the ability to work.
