'Guatemalan immigrant teen journeys north to find her father in Illinois'

"In May, the father and daughter left Guatemala and crossed into Mexico with a couple of backpacks, a walker and a wheelchair".

"On June 2, they crossed the Rio Grande on inflatable boats and were detained by Border Patrol agents within hours after entering South Texas".

https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/gu...C8l?li=BBnb7Kz

So they both came here illegally and now she is working here illegally and they are also seeking medical treatment for her father on the taxpayer dime. The father also left a wife and other kids behind (so much for the weeping and sniveling about the separation of families by these types).

I could hardly stomach reading the article as it was so full of sympathy for these illegal aliens while demonizing or border officers and our right to enforce our immigration laws.

there are certainly factors in their situation that are glossed over, but other than her saying (complaining?) the officers only spoke English, it did nothing to demonize border officers. It's certainly sympathetic to them and their "human plight".

It's curious we hear this father/daughter story ... and then we find out her father has a 2nd wife (new wife?) and child in IL. How did they get here? If legally, wouldn't that be an important fact to point out? It's also interesting that with all of the pro-illegal rights organizations, none had enough manpower to help them out. You'd think at some point they (organizations) would realize that while THEY may think helping illegals is critically-important, not enough other people do.

She blamed our immigration policies for her plight which is ridiculous. She said, "We knew it was neither his fault nor mine. It was immigration who decided to separate us."

Also, in the article it was stated that she and her father floated over the Rio Grande on a raft and were apprehended by the Border Patrol. So no, they didn't come here legally but illegally. Whatever sob story he came up with he was released into our society to relatives. He left his wife and the rest of his kids behind while evidently re-marring here. He and his daughter expected the taxpayer to cover his medical bills here. Sorry, if I can't shed a tear for either of them.

If you want to help illegals, do things for their own country. Not sure how to do that, but those large organization should figure it out since they have so much money to throw at lobbying, and paying news outlets to print out sob stories.

People who want to help these illegals will do better by them by going over to impoverished country, and helping them out there, so dont have to risk life and limb by making such a long trek.

If you can believe their equating this refuse to blacks getting lynched or Jews getting gassed.

The powers holding the bullhorn for these people (and business) should take care to remember the boy who cried wolf. These groups are using psychological warfare to win, but forget the power of human apathy in the face of chronic swindling. We’re also living longer.

This is so ridiculous! Notice that it says she put her dreams of finishing high school and becoming a doctor on hold to wait tables in a Mexican restaurant. Guatemala needs more doctors--she should know that given her father's condition--but America doesn't need more drop-out waitresses. I don't know why they're calling this girl an immigrant since there's no indication she has any desire to become American or gave America a second thought before her dad decided to leave. She isn't fleeing violence, she isn't destitute, she's a teenager trying to hold onto a father who was ready to abandon her for the US. She would've followed him to Timbuktu. They like wail about separating families but her dad abandoned his kids and she abandoned her mom, grandparents, and siblings.

They're exaggerating the father's level of disability. You mean to tell me the girl and her father made it from Guatemala to the Texas border all by themselves with him in a wheelchair/walker? Then after being released, he made it alone from the Texas border to Chicago? He does not use a wheelchair because he's suffering from a degenerative disease or spinal cord injury--he just needs more surgery and rehab. How much of what he paid a coyote could've gone toward medical expenses? And you're telling me Mexico doesn't have doctors who could've treated him? And if it's just about the best medical care why are they planning on staying here for the rest of their lives?

We know how this ends. The father already secured his place by marrying an American citizen and taking on an American stepchild (it doesn't say their citizenship but I would bet). His brother that's here is probably illegal too, but has anchor babies and possibly an American wife. The girl isn't going back to school, she will give birth before being deported, and in three or four years her little sister in Guatemala will come up and join them. Rinse and repeat.

They took buses and ubers all the way from Guatemala. What exactly were they expecting? She kept mentioning that her father will heal here. It’s been several years since the accident, does she think he will magically heal by breathing US air? They very likely do not qualify for asylum.

Sounds like a win for illegal immigration!

Seriously though, why is it for your ancestors to come over here, pay .25c sign a book and just move in? Your ancestors had the privilege of being here first and now its not ok for anyone else? That's hypocritical tbh.

So that means we should open our border for anyone to come and go as they wish?

Also, back in the old days there were no social safety nets (welfare, foodstamps, EMTALA of 1986, etc) like we have now. You were either sink or swim. That girl's father is here to seek medical treatment. Who do you think is footing the bills?
