The revelation that an L.A. arson suspect entered the U.S. after losing an asylum bid in Canada has focused attention on stringent policies that could force more immigrants to seek refuge in the U.S.

For years, Canada has had one of the most generous immigration policies in the world, welcoming tens of thousands of asylum applicants who claim to be fleeing persecution in their homelands.

But Canada's Conservative government has begun rolling up the welcome mat, stepping up efforts to track down and deport thousands of asylum-seekers whose applications have been denied.

The clampdown is likely to be felt not only across Canada, but in the United States.

Fresh from the revelation that Los Angeles arson suspect Harry Burkhart traveled to the U.S. from Vancouver after losing his nearly three-year bid for refugee status, immigration analysts here warn that the United States could become a new destination for thousands of asylum applicants soon to be pushed out of the pipeline in Canada.

"This is about to become a staging inventory for potential illicit entry into the United States," said Richard Kurland, an immigration policy analyst and attorney in Vancouver.

We'll continue to attract the misfits and welfare seekers with our extremely lax enforcement of the laws. Plus the pandering politicians looking for easy votes from grateful illegals who want the easy life and pandering politicans.

You read my mind. We have become the dumping ground for all of the uneducated, poor, abundantly breeding masses.

There is not enough American taxpayers gainfully employed to save the world. It will be interesting to see who in our government will stand up and say enough, deport the millions of so called tired and poor, ensure that the 14th Amendment ceases to be abused/misconstrued, blow out the lamp and put out the "bankrupt" sign.

ALL other countries in the world have some kind of borders and immigration laws. All other countries have better enforcement of their laws, but the USA which takes in by far more legal immigrants than any other country has essentially zero enforcement of immigration laws and does next to nothing to stop an onslaught of illegals coming here expecting free health care, free education, food stamps and citizenship as their reward for choosing to break the laws.

Visa? When did that become important?

Obama is promising all good things to anyone who can get here illegally. Apprehensions of illegals is way down because the Obama government is pandering for the votes of illegals. Now the illegals are being told they will only be deported if they commit some crime like murder, otherwise they are going to be allowed to come here illegally and then apply for legal status and wait to be given that here in this country.

More of your myths. Harry Burkhardt and mother are German citizens who require no visa to enter the US.

Normal asylum seekers would need a visa they will have difficulty getting.

He is deporting at twice the rate of Bush but still you are unhappy?

During the Bush regime illegal aliens increased by 3.6 million. During the Obama administration they are down .8 million.

So it would again appear your view are pure mythology.

Those seeking asylum merely need to make it to a port of entry, no visa required.

You're wrong on that. And don't forget the U visa -- well advertised on Mexican pro-illegal radio shows.

All the illegal now has to do is claim he or she is some kind of victim. Just like on this radio show for illegals, an immigration lawyer will provide many examples of how one can claim to be a victim. Found with illegal drugs? Claim they were planted on you and you are now a victim, and will be given a U visa.

Someone back home or in the USA punched or slapped you? Voila! You are a victim. Were you robbed? Well, you are a victim and can go for the U visa.

You are correct.

And now Obama has decreed that illegals no longer need to be deported. They can apply for legal status -- ahead of those who respect our laws and they can go on living here as they please.

Those who respect the laws are viewed as chumps. Feel like coming here? Just do so illegally, break any law you like except don't murder someone, later you can apply for legal status and never need to worry about being deported.
