Yawn. Who is Chili again? Images of shanty towns and tin shacks seem strike a bell.

Give them 100 years which is where American was 100 years ago. They had better know when to turn it off like we didn't! Wave after wave of shamnesties will bring the whole house down.

I spent a lot of time in Chile, and admire the place very much. It has perhaps the most fascinating physical setting in South America.

But once again..how many illegals did Chile 'normalize'? Would Chile do the same if it had several MILLION illegals? How would Chile react if it found that it housed ten percent of the population of Peru? Or 12 percent of the population of Bolivia? Would this be 'OK' with the Chilenos...or not?

Regularizing illegals is a noble thing to do....at reasonable numbers. In the multiple millions, though....or after multiple amnesties...sometimes the problem's not so simple.

I don't see our situation here in the US as being very much like the situation in Chile..though I've always liked the place.

Note that we don't need that 'work force'----------especially with Americans out of work.

Besides: if the USA indeed needed additional labor............why should we limit ourselves to Latin Americans? Hell; we would get more bang for the buck by hiring English speakers from the Philippines, etc.
