I got a speeding ticket in 2011 in my girlfriend's car. The BMV wants proof of insurance or they're suspending my license for 90 days. I have no way of getting in touch with her. How can I get proof?

This makes no sense unless you didn't pay the ticket for 6 years.

How did you learn of this requirement? It sounds like an email scam to me.

You mean to say the BMV wants proof of insurance for a speeding ticket you received while driving another person's car in the year 2011? I bet you can pay a fine to the BMV so they can finally close out the ticket and they won't suspend your drivers licenses.

I don't know of the BMV backdating proof of insurance requirements for crashes and citations. It sounds like they would've suspended your license back in 2001. After sixteen years you should be able to get your license back with proof of insurance for yourself (you can buy insurance that will cover you in another person's vehicle). Now if you didn't pay the ticket, you have to go to the court to pay the ticket. Once paid they will send notice to the BMV (tell the court this needs to be done or ask who you need to tell to do this) and the BMV will charge reinstatement fees but you can get a license. I doubt they will ask for insurance as it isn't required to get a license.

Is this what you're talking about?

: Proof of Financial Responsibility

This is the only thing I can find about needing proof of insurance or else your license gets suspended. And none of this should have taken 6 years to get to you. Also, a simple speeding ticket wouldn't have caused it. You'd have had to have gotten three violations within a year or it was more serious than a simple speeding ticket. It's possible your only option is to get SR22 insurance as described in the last couple paragraphs and hold onto it for 3 years.

It was shortly after I paid the ticket 6 years later, but I'm happy to announce that I found her insurance company and they sent the certificate of compliance to BMV. I'm not losing my license.
