Although I am always amazed that anybody clicks on ads I will say that having those ads on top of the mail list does increase the chances of clicking on one for people that routinely delete .

I am regular user of the Yahoo groups but the recent changes were just absurd. They called this *update* but it became harder to use, especially for new people.

Yahoo has cut its own staff so much in recent years, my guess is no one is adequately "manning the ships" on the backend (their large collections of servers). Sadly, I find this attack vector nothing shocking. I guess some people do click on such ads, but I do not and tend to keep them blocked with ad blocker in my browser.
