I wasn't sure if this should go on the internet sub-forum or the cell phone sub-forum.

I'll be staying at an extended stay place for several weeks (3-7) and I'll need internet service faster/more reliable than what the hotel provides (Studio 6, usually the connection sucks). I can tether to my cell phone but Sprint data is really slow and I'll be capped at 2G speed once I hit my data max (and that's usually pretty quick when I tether). I've had clients who used a Verizon hotspot with good luck but that service was an add-on to their cell plan. Changing my cell service to Verizon is not an option for now.

What other options do I have? Do the cell providers offer just hotspot service? Is that what the data stick things are for?

I'm a bit clueless on the whole hotspot thing other than tethering my phone. I'm happy to search if someone will tell me what the heck I need to search for on Google.

You can get prepaid hotspot service with a few providers, here's AT&T https://www.att.com/shop/wireless/at...e-hotspot.html

Boost Mobile https://www.boostmobile.com/#!/shop/...wifi-hotspots/

I'm sure other companies offer no contract hotspot service it's just a matter of looking for the best deal

When we moved last year, used a ATT prepaid mobile hot spot for a few weeks while waiting for our internet install. Before that I hotspotted with my cell phone, until the MNVO started throttling me because I hit their data cap. Their throttle was so severe the phone was basically unusable, but with the ATT hot spot, everything went fine. We used ATT because TMobile does not cover in NH.

AT&T offer an unlimited plan for $65 a month. They offer a discount o $5 if you sign for autopay.
The limit is 22GB, which is very good if you use the connection mainly for email and basic internet.

I saw that T-Mobile upped their limit to 50GB, so depending on the service area and coverage might give you more.

if you have tmobile, and a decent android phone.. you can teather or root it and teather it.. i done it in your situation when i traveled. I know the feeling of slow internet at hotels. I use my s6 at the time, root and wifi teather it.. eat up about 100g a month with no throttleing.. even to this day on my nexus 6 i use it for same thing.. eat up about 80gig and have yet to be throttle and get consistant 20mb down and 10 up with 2 bars with tmobile.

I have a google nexus phone that allows me to tether at my desire on the ATT backbone. I suspect, but can't confirm, that any unlocked phone can tether.
