So my company offers this service if anyone wants to go outside the normal investment options that it offers. I know they are pretty safe investments that haven't moved in 4 years except one of them but I'd like to try myself. I am able to invest in most stocks, mutual funds, ETFs, futures and bonds. Unfortunately I can't buy my companies stock (MMP) . It is a straight 9.95 per transaction on buying and selling.

I don't have a whole lot in my 401k now (less than 50k) but next year I'm going to increase it to 20% net with my company matching 6%.

What do I need to read up on for investing in stocks for noobs? I'm a risk taker and don't mind making risky moves. I hate on stocks but I gotta get in and try and make a nest egg.

I hear FB is a sleeper. ok j/k

You are better off going to Vegas and betting on black than trying to be successful and trade individual stocks. Its a losers game.

Invest up to the match in mutual funds and max out your Roth IRA....that's all you need to be concerned with now.

I want to buy just stocks and sit on them. Not looking to day trade.
