Hello community,

Let me give a little background information since I am new here. I am 18 and going to college to study finance. I would love to start an investment company as soon as I can, and I have done research, and I currently run my own diversified perpetual dividend raising portfolio. There are many different avenues of starting this. I could try to get a track record of positive stock growth, and try to pitch my ideas to investors. The other idea I had was starting a series of small businesses to provide a cash generating asset and putting those assets to grow the business and to put it in different investments.

What do you guys think?

Thanks,
Kyle

Thanks,
Kyle

Edit: the loans will only be about 22.5k or so

Hahahahahahahahaha..

Sorry, not to discourage you, but 10K is pocket change in the investment business.

You'd be hard pressed to start an investment company with 1 million.. see: How to Start a Hedge Fund | Life on the Buy Side

(Although it specifically details how painful it is to start a $1 million hedge fund.)

With 10k in assets you are going to be hard pressed to bring in money based on your performance.

Hey Kyle, you ever see the movie "Jerry Maguire"? Probably not because it came out before you were born, but at any rate there is a great line in it - "Show me the money". Anyone can talk a story but can you back it up? You gotta have cred. My suggestion is earn that cred first then talk story to us, er, your clients.

I understand that I do not have enough capital now. I am wondering what I should do when I have enough capital.

- Network with people who have the capital to invest.
- Get a track record with good performance
- Get some credentials (at least a college degree in something investment related like Finance, Business, Economics, etc. AND an MBA or a CFA charter.)
- Get licensed with the SEC

Licensing of industry professionals is a finra deal. Series 7, series 63/65 or 66 would be the first 2-3 basic exam for securities professionals in the US

What if I just wanted to start like a small business first? Like a series of small businesses to have a cash generating asset to invest?
