NEW YORK (Reuters) - Technology giant Microsoft Corp (NasdaqGS:MSFT - News) said on Friday that it had offered to acquire Internet media company Yahoo Inc (NasdaqGS:YHOO - News) for $44.6 billion in cash and stock.

Too bad. I like Yahoo and use it as my home page. I generally don't like what Microsoft does so I would probably find a new search engine unless they left it alone.
As someone who has owned YHOO's POC stock for way too long, I hope it goes through. YHOO's management is just bonehead enough to decline, however. They certainly haven't done a very good job of running their company-- might as well give someone else a chance!
MS wants to be a player in search and YHOO has a foothold. But YHOO's management appears to be too old-school to play in the new media arena. YHOO gives MS an entry, and MS's bucks enable YHOO to play more aggressively. GOOG needs competition. So it's a good thing.

GooG need's competition, but MS (or yahoo) will not get there from here.
I have to be a Yahoo user b'cuz GOOG is just as invasive as MS (which is criminal)
It absolutely kills your band width if modem is your only available connection. I can only hope that someday linux + open source browser or something else will free the processor bandwidth to only work for me, not data mine on my nickel. I cannot think of a more painful death for Yahoo, than a MS hostile takeover, but... that's progress!

I will never use Yahoo for anything because of the fact they have people executed and jailed in China.
