Any have any opinions on SCTY? I'm thinking of buying some tomorrow - I have a feeling they will have a better than expected earnings report. I find it funny it is dropping in after-hours today just because TSLA is dropping.

I sold my position in SCTY yesterday when it was up 16%. I then bought a small position today at $62/share to play earnings tomorrow. This stock moves big on almost any news. I like Elon Musk a lot and am willing to play earnings with some of my gains from yesterday. The stock went up yesterday because they revealed plans to issue bonds.

Because like Tesla, if Musk catches a cold, the entire shebang can come tumbling down. A lot of people buy shares in Tesla and Solar City because they like the personality of Musk. It would be different if there was something there, there. Both companies are just one really bad PR away from a serious tanking.

Well, it's already happening on Tesla.

I'm not certain if Solar City has reached a new floor. It may still drop a bit. The solar etf, TAN, has had an awesome run since the beginning of the year.

I've traded/held short term a few of the Chinese solar companies from about June forward. The solar companies seem to all go UP at the same time and go DOWN at the same time. The smaller solar companies mimic stock price fluctuations of the big boys (Solar City, First Solar, Sun Power and Canadian Solar).

Anyway, green energy and green buildings are some of my interests since I'm in construction. The feed- back that I'm getting from people that I know in the solar sector (residential/commercial) is that 2014 will be bigger than in 2013 in terms of projects and total MW (if the economy doesn't turn for the worse unexpectedly). As such, I think we will start seeing solar company consolidations soon and Chinese solar companies are very unpredictable. Who knows what the Chinese government will do that may affect these companies negatively or positively. Most, if not all, of the Chinese solar companies don't turn a profit and panel prices are dropping. The technology and manufacturing is getting cheaper.

-Cheers.

I sold SCTY and will stay away from it like the plague. I can see it testing the 50 day moving average, which is around $43 as of today. If the market does correct a bit, I expect these high momentum stocks to take the biggest hit. We saw it today with many stocks such as NFLX, SCTY, TSLA, FB, AMZN etc.

what do you think of STP with the extreme volatility in the past couple weeks. swings up or down 20-40% a day. they are near their 52wk low... could be a good time to buy for a short gain
