Hi,we are thinking about buying a house in Seymour and would like some info please. We are on disability and i was wondering if they had good doctors and hospitals as my husband has a bad heart, lungs and so on plus we are on a very small income ,so is there energy assistance or help with fixing your home that kind of stuff. We want a nice quiet and safe place to live we hope you can answer some of our questions so we know we are going to be happy in Seymour.Thank you Linda

Well, the hospitals in that area aren't bad, but they aren't very big. You're halfway between the Wayne County Hospital in Corydon and Mercy in Centerville. I've had family go through Wayne County and they have generally done a good job. However, if it ever got serious, they were instantly transferred to a hospital in Des Moines.

So I think if I were you, I would move somewhere closer to a larger hospital, such as those in Des Moines or Iowa City (or really any large metro in the state) because it will come in handy in an emergency. The time it takes them to fly you into Des Moines can make a huge difference. However, you can get along fine in Seymour if you are set on that area. They can take care of most minor things locally and send you to a larger center if you need it.

I don't know anything about energy assistance so hopefully someone else can answer that for you?

3 weeks ago I actually went to a football game at Seymour (vs Essex). Cute little town with a town square that's gradually evaporating for businesses. You're a fairly long drive from any hospital of size (Ottumwa). Definitely a "quiet" little town with what I experienced with very friendly people. The cost of living there I'm sure would be very reasonable.
