I am considering taking a state position in Cherokee. I looked at its web site and Chamber of Commerce information. From these sites, it looks like a fairly typical small rural town. I was hoping that someone on here might be able to offer anything that they might know of the town. Any thoughts or experiences?

Also, any information on the availability of rentals up there would be appreciated. I am concerned about being able to rent an apartment up there w/ my dog. I looked in the local newspaper, but didn't see any apartments for rent. Are rentals handled through real estate agencies or through word of mouth?

This is not a done deal yet, so any information would be helpful. I do plan on going up there to visit this week and try to get a feel for the place.

Many thanks!

Well it's a good thing you at least realize it is going to be a typical rural Iowa community. Sometimes people on here take that lightly and hate it once they move.

The thing about Cherokee is you really are isolated besides "Siouxland." It's going to be a looong drive to get anywhere else. BUT - if that doesn't bother you, go for it! I'd say.
