I'd like to retire in a nice simple community w/farming AG codes and freedom to raise animals. Privacy, quite with a city life close. Not very expensive within rainge of hopitals -civilization. I like rivers and healthclubs. What part of Iowa would I like? I'm in my 50's with a Woodstock backround.

Anywhere around Des Moines, Iowa City or Cedar Rapids would be good choices...Iowa City may be best if you have a woodstock background
But anything around or near these three cities I think would work for you. Land is not cheap here compared to rural areas of the south, but prices aren't bad...(obviously not as expensive as the NE or west coast). It may take some time and searching if you are looking for something particular. Obviously, land closer to these cities may cost you more.

In Scott county land prices are higher than most of the state but you'd be close to the Quad Cities and fairly close to Iowa City.

You might also want to think about the area around Omaha. Omaha is a significantly larger city (800,000 metro vs. Des Moines' 556,000) than any city in Iowa, and so perhaps more comparable to where you are from. (Although coming from Tampa, Omaha probably won't seem very big either.)

But anything around or near these three cities I think would work for you. Land is not cheap here compared to rural areas of the south, but prices aren't bad...(obviously not as expensive as the NE or west coast). It may take some time and searching if you are looking for something particular. Obviously, land closer to these cities may cost you more.
