First of all, we live on the southern end of Jax, close to Baymeadows and Southside Blvds. We are/have been having a real problem finding a church that we would really enjoy attending on Sunday mornings. We have been here a year and a half and still haven't found the right one! We've had this problem before in another State. We are more into the "Traditional" type Service which would be no Praise Band and an older congregation (older meaning more folks in their 50's and 60's). We also like an early Service (we are early risers). It seems those things that we want/don't want..... don't exsist here! We attended a couple of churches that were close to us, but the congregations just seems so young and unfriendly.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Lakewood United Methodist Church

Try Lakewood United Methodist at University and San Jose. Not too far from you, and on Sunday mornings, the trip would be a breeze. They do have families with school aged children, but most are boomers and older.

They have two traditional services- 8:30 and 11 and the minister and his wife are lovely people. If you go to the 8:30 service, stop into the fellowship hall for coffee and a sausage and egg biscuit afterward- a great way to meet folks.

Oh- and first time visitors get fresh home made cookies....

There are many paths that lead to God....LOL!

BTW- for those so inclined- the downtown churches are really beautiful and worth a visit. I never really found a church in Jax that was socially liberal enough for me personally, so we have church hopped. The week before last we attended an AME church downtown and it was so pretty inside. I love the vibe of old churches and the congregation was really friendly.

I just checked to see if they had a website and found a wikipedia page on it, but no pix of the inside. Mount Zion AME Church (Jacksonville, Florida) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Prince of Peace Catholic Church has an older congregation. There are some young families, but the majority have attended the church since the beginning for over 30 years. They have an 8:00 service on Sunday mornings.

Welcome to Prince of Peace Online

Oh, forgot to say that we are not Catholic. We've gone to a Methodist and non-denonminational churches before.......liked the Methodist one. Just have to find a smaller church than the one we've gone to.
