Please advise...Does a city or private organization exist to receive books and manuals? I have many books that could be donated, and I have many manuals that must be recycled.

You could try Chamblin's BookMine

Chamblin's Books - Used, New, and Out of Print

If any of your books are suitable for a library, the Clay County Library accepts donations. Clay County Public Library I'm not certain about the Duval County Library system, but perhaps they do, too. Welcome to Jacksonville Public Library

What kind of books and manuals are these? Keep in mind anything you donate to a library will simply be resold for pennies on the dollar of actual value or taken to sell by library "volunteers". They won't be actually used by the library. Checking a few prices on amazon would be a good. A used book dealer is guaranteed to rip you off if you don't have any idea of value.

If you just want to pack them up and drop them off somewhere, the library is definitely the way to go. As Kevinas said, they will go to the yearly library book sale which is a fundraiser for the library.

Chamblins will give you money or store credit, but they will pick and choose from your books. If you have the time, you could try this route and then donate to the library whatever Chamblins won't take (which might be 80% of your books ). There's also Black Sheep.

For the recyclables, you can put small bundles together with twine and put them out with your normal blue bin recycling. Another option is to drop the whole lot of them off at the recycling center.

When my school needed to get rid of old books, we donated them to an organization that shipped them to Africa where they were treasured by children who had no books at all. Of course, they need to be readable & in relatively good condition (not raggedy or ripped) .

We're desperately looking for books. Jacksonville's Lifeway Baptist University is a new university, and the accreditation agencies require our library to have 10,000 volumes. So far, we only have 6,000 books. We'll be happy to come pick them up. We need all types, but obviously, nothing off-color. Textbook types are a really good choice, but fiction, etc., are always useful. If you want us to come pick them up, please call 600-7648.
p.s. We're a bunch of older men, so please cut us some slack by not packing 500-pound boxes. Thank you!
