We are moving to Jax this summer and are coming from a wonderful Catholic school. I have read through all the previous posts and most are dated. We would like to live close to the kids school and be within a 1/2 hour of the base. Any help would be greatly appreciated concerning what schools to look at and what schools not to.

I went to Christ the King years ago. Was a really good school back in the late 90's. I have no idea how good it is now.

If you are talking Mayport, the closest is probably St. Pauls at Jax Beach.

The closest to NAS Jax would probably be either
St Matthews at 1767 Blanding Blvd, Jacksonville FL. 32210 or
Sacred Heart at 5752 Blanding Blvd, Jacksonville FL. 32244

Thanks for the replies! I have a good idea of what schools are located close to NAS Jax, I would just like to know which ones are better than others.

We have a few friends at Sacred Heart and they really like it - don't know any specifics - just that they are happy there. My Godson is in 7th grade now and he's been there since kindergarten and it has been a great experience all the way through. His sister they removed this year and put into the public school system (due to financial reasons) and they seriously regret what they have done and plan on their daughter going back to Sacred Heart next year.

We have been at San Jose Catholic, across the River from NAS Jax, for K-3. We recently moved to St. Johns county and our child is enrolled in 4th grade at the public school. We will be going back to San Jose for 5th grade and beyond. We have been impressed with the academics in St. Johns, it's just the 'family values' aspect of the Catholic schools are much more in line of how we are.

FWIW, neither my wife nor I are Catholic. We just appreciate the level of respect for education (and the educators) that is lacking in public school.

Their are two main Catholic HS the area, Bishop Snyder on the Westside, and Bishop Kenny on the Southside. Also, FWIW, most of the valedictorians the last 20 years at BK have come from San Jose Catholic.

Feel free to send a message if you have more questions.

Thanks to everyone for their great advice. We toured a couple of schools. We all loved Assumption and chose that for our new school. Now if I can just find a house!
