Since there are no basements in Florida do we have a need for a dehumidifier? De icing what to bring from CT.

I wouldn't bring it. They usually put out quite a bit of heat, which would cancel out any benefit of removing the humidity, IMO. Let your AC dry things out instead.

Yes, bring the dehumidifier. There are parts of the year where your AC is not going to be running (like now) and it will probably be very humid inside. This time of year my house can get upwards of 70% humidity inside.

A dehumidifier will allow you to bump up the AC a bit to save some money. It will be an asset.

I use a humidifier in the winter. Because the heat dries the air out too much.

As for a dehumidifier - we let the A/C do the work. We keep the house at 76 or 77 (depending on my mood) and don't have any problems. I wouldn't keep the A/C setting any higher than that because of possible mold issues. FWIW - the last couple of weeks - it's been (unseasonably) warm. So the A/C has kicked in quite a few times. We set the thermostat to turn on the A/C or heat automatically when either is needed. Sometimes - especially this time of year and in the late fall - we can have the heat on in the morning and the A/C on in the afternoon. Robyn

There are the shoulder months when neither the heat or AC are running when it is very beneficial. It also depends on the construction of your house and how much outside air is allowed in.
