I was at the Lowes in O.P. and got a $500.00 fine because I did not have my business licence # on my magnetic signs. Since I am a paint contractor and mobile, the city of O.P. does not issue licences but if you do business in Jax., you need one. I do have a Jax. licence which is now just called a tax ID #. I keep my licence in vehicle in case it's asked for . I have never heard of this rule for having # on vehicle or signage. Can anyone enlighten me on the subject

Most contractors I see driving around have their license #'s near their identifying marks. Are you sure they weren't asking for your CONTRACTORS LICENSE NUMBER? That's not the same thing as a Tax ID. And, that's not necessarily something that's issued by a county, but rather a state license.

What statute did they cite on the ticket? It would have to be a state law. I know that general contractors and roofers must have their license # on their signage, but never heard about painting contrators having to.
