Alright I hated living in Jax...that's me. I lived in Southside, Mandarin and then Riverside in a matter of ten months..so I got to see the city. It seemed to me the jobs are horrible..I mean in Riverside I was the only one in a five apartment building working..and that's no joke...no theater since I love seeing plays...and it is a big city but it's bland..but I'm not here to trash the city..I want to hear your views on the city..what you love and places to see...or what you hate about it....let me get some other views...

I'm 21 and moved here about 2 months ago... I have had pretty much the exact opposite experience... I got a job down here making more money than I did in MD and the cost of living is less than half of what it is in MD... I had a 600 sq/ft apartment in MD that was a dump and cost $1100 month and it wasn't even near the city... While JAX might not be the most bumpin city in the country it more than makes up for it with the cost of living and nice weather...

Sure in DC and Baltimore there was a bit more nightlife but there were also a lot of negatives... The cost of living was INSANE and contrary to what most people think 85% of DC and Baltimore are dumps and dangerous... Not to mention the absolute traffic nightmare...

I am much happier down here in JAX...

Jacksonville isn't for everyone. I like Jacksonville for the historic neighborhoods, the river(s), bridges, all that good stuff. What I like MOST is that you can get more for your money down here. You can make $35K a year and live well in Jacksonville. I hate how Central Jacksonville shuts down after 5pm. I mean yea, we got the Jax Landing but that doesn't jump off until the evening hours.

Well you left so isn't it late to be asking?

Also I'm making the exact same thing as in Pa and the parking garages downtown are mobbed. In fact some just stopped taking new people they are maxed out.

Someone is working.

Honestly the job market down here isn't that bad depending on what you do... Alot of people assume that because they can't get a job in their field that there aren't any jobs at all...

To an extent unskilled jobs like fast food or retail will always be competitive... There are plenty of jobs around here for software developers and engineers...

the medical field is the largest job field in the city

Jax has some of the best medical services in the country, with Mayo, Proton Therapy, Nemours, Wolfson, Baptist, St. Vincents, & Shands all being very highly regarded.

The mortgage servicing industry has a pretty large presence, as well.

I'm here for the river. I've lived in Colorado, Nebraska, Maryland and Virginia and I have to say the outdoor experience in North Florida with all it's parks and waterways rules.
If you live here and aren't doing some hiking/boating, you're not getting your nickel's worth.

The view of the river going through downtown was very nice today on my way from the airport.
