My father-in-law has a few lots here in Mandarin. There are probably dozens of tall pines on the lot, and he wants 'em gone. I was wondering if there is a local lumber yard or timber buyer that works with small loads, who might want to purchase these trees, instead of us just having them ground up, or left in the woods to rot.

Any ideas?

Probably not enough wood to make it worthwhile for anyone to purchase. I had my lot cleared recently and was told a minimum of 5 truck-loads of wood had to come out and they would pay me. Otherwise, they would remove it at no cost to me, but leave the mess behind (limbs, stumps, etc.) for me to clean up. In the current market, there doesn't seem to be much demand for timber/pulp wood.

As it turned out, they got 4 loads from my 3 acres, so no money for me. On the other hand, I did get them to clean up for a very reasonable rate, so I'm content with that.

Maybe custom furniture builders or craftsmen.

About 2 years ago, I had to cut down a very large oak. It broke my heart to do it, but the roots were lifting the foundation of my garage and patio .

We originally wanted to do the same, but unless you're going to use the wood yourself, I don't think there's much of a market for it. I even have access to family equipment to cut and plane the planks, but the enormity of the job was too much for us. Not to mention, we don't own a truck, just and SUV used for dog-hauling .

Pine is even less desirable than oak. That's why you always see piles of it on the curb. Unless it's seasoned, you can't even burn it (too messy of a burn).

Anyway...let us know if you find out a way to sell the wood, I'd be curious how it works out.

Also, I loved my tree company. They did such a professional job and this tree was in a bad spot. It was so precarious, they had to use cranes to get the tree out of my backyard and into their trucks (yes, trucks plural...the tree was that big!). If you need a quote, give them a call:

Ask for Charles Florida, I highly recommend him:
