If it's not a high level job, then 2 interviews should be enough. I even remember when for me, the first interview was the formal one, usually done by H.R. and the 2nd interview was done by the prospective supervisor, more casually, and then, they'd introduce you around to the prospective co-workers for that department, then you get home and there would be a phone call extending a job offer. Of course, that was for lower-level jobs, so YMMV.
The last time I had a 2nd interview, instead it was more grilling than the first and no offer was extended, so I was crestfallen, having expected that 2nd interview to mean that I was 'in'.
I do not participate and endure multiple interviews. I apply. You call me and schedule interview. I do not answer questions such as, what were your biggest challenges you overcame blah, blah, blah! I tell you what I offer. Take it or leave it! I do not play these games. I recently told some phome recruiter in so many words to stick it!

A strong applicant should be as much in charge as the interviewer. They want to exploit you, you want to exploit them. The ER is not doing anyone a favor by hiring him.
