I just wanted to say that I confess that if my life depended on finding a job and that if preserving my life were one of my top priorities I probably would have found some job by now, but with the ability to collect I don't feel an intense hurry to chase a job that will lower my quality of life and contribute nothing to my wallet or career goals. my career or what's left of it is already in the toilet anyway, so a difference of a few months unemployed is unlikely to make me more or less attractive to employers. would I have a job by now if I were overly discontent with the status quo? maybe. maybe not.

I have a job. Your not missing much Wish I woulda taken a vacation while I was unemployed for two weeks earlier this year. Why was I so ambitious

To be honest though, I couldn't handle sitting around for too long. Those two weeks were the most miserable two weeks of my life. Hope the time served useful, but I hope you find something soon.

What do you do when the benefits run out?

I've been on unemployment three or four times...I NEVER looked for a job until my benefits ran out completely. It always seemed to work out all right.
Why jump from a frying pan into another frying pan? Enjoy your time away from the salt mines.

That is exactly what I've been saying for a long time. Everyone complains the government isn't doing enough to help. Tge truth is they are giving away far too much money for far too long. I agree that we need unemployment but strongly feel the benifits need to end at 6 months unless you have medical issues.

We'd be in far better shape if people we made accountable and actually forced to get off their azz and get a job.

I wish our society was not so work obsessed. It's quite obvious you're viewed as lazy and pathetic if you aren't working 40-60 hours a week, almost every week for 40-50 years in this country.

Not everyone is given the same opportunities and personality to succeed as well as others.

That was said by the GOP regarding the scaling back of benefits "People are more inclined to look for a job when the checks stop coming in."

I'm all for benefits for people putting forth effort in finding a job but not too interested in helping those that want to draw a check while vacationing in the Bahamas.

Tougher job search audits would be a good thing too.

I wish the government would stop paying “some” people not to work.

This is not the norm for people who lost their jobs. Most try to get back to work, real work, as soon as possible.

I think some people LIKE to think if you get UE or food stamps or other 'help' you must be a lazy jerk who is watching the NFL and drinking beer on the sofa between playing Wii.

Not true.

Again, a few jerks ruin it for everyone else.

Being unemployed is one of life's most stressful events, especially if a person does not have enough savings to get them through. Rarely can anyone afford to rest on their laurels while collecting UI benefits because the benefits are small in comparison to the amount the person earned while working. Not only that, being unemployed eats at people's sense of self-worth and can cause depression in some. I've collected UI and boy was I happy when the day came that I no longer had to mail in my claim form. I ended up leaving a balance as I never collected my full claim amount due to working part-time while receiving benefits. I'm so grateful that I had that extra money during the time when my hours were severely cut back but when things returned to normal, it was a relief to be off unemployment even though I never collected my full claim amount.
