I just turned down an interview for a job today. This would have been the third interview for a position that probably paid less than $60k/yr. I did the phone interview and did well. They brought me in for a face to face interview with the two managers I'd be reporting to. I had to take time off from my job to make this happen. Now they called me today and wanted to set up another interview. Really?!?! How many frickin' interviews do you need to figure out who to hire for this job where you're surely going to low ball me on salary anyway? Why can't you just set up back to back interviews on the same day? No, you'd rather waste people's valuable time, who would have to take time off of work to meet your stringent hiring practices. To the employers that run this inefficiently, get it together.

Anyway, I withdrew my name because I have moved across country. I would have considered taking the job if they were ready to offer it to me now. However, I'm not interested in accepting a job with a company that is going to have little to no regard for my time.

Have you been at the same job since 1989? Multiple interviews have been the norm in many fields for several years. Part of the idea is to weed out those who don't want to take the time and effort to go through the process. Like you.

That's the challenge of trying to find a job while employed, trying to get hired from a company with mutiple round of interviews. And all that does is make the employee look obvious about job searching.

That's the dumbest thing I've read today. So instead of trying to evaluate your skill set and experience and determine if it's a fit for the position, they're waiting you out is essentially what you're saying. I've had several interviews in the last five years and they've never gone past a phone interview and a round of face-to-face interviews (conducted in one day, mind you). Not at my level anyway (let's just say I'm not exactly an EVP or CIO or CEO). What I described in the OP is complete waste of time and resources for someone at my level. Then HR shills belittle you on this forum for taking time off of work for interviews. These are the "geniuses" running the hiring processes today.

Sadly, this is more typical than not.

I don't even count a "phone screening" as an interview. I would advise you not to either. Otherwise it will drive you mad. Just count the "in person" meetings where you actually have to go there as interviews. You'll feel a little better.

Right, but they don't even consider that more than likely you have to cut into your personal time off to conduct these interviews. And then if you don't get the job, you have to start all over. If my managers get suspicious and start asking me why I need to take so much time off in a short time span, I don't know what I'm going to tell them.

I haven't looked in a long time, but I would insist on the phone screenings before or after office hours or on the lunch hour and I got cooperation on that.

For timewasters, you cannot beat employment agencies. They can waste hours of your time and be lying and not even have a job for you. Beware the employment agencies!

Perhaps you can use settling in excuses (furniture shopping, dealing with utilities, etc.) for taking time off now.

Typical is a phone interview, an in person interview, and a final interview. Very seldom do you get an offer without a third and final interview, unless you are applying for a retail or fast food job.

na, normally just phone interview, then in person interview for those who are currently employed.

Good for him to turn it down. I would too unless that job is a big improvement. Normally during the phone interview, I would ask how many round of interview for this position at the beginning, so we don't waste eachothers time.

Exactly. Just about every interview process I've partaken in over the past five years has been a phone interview and a face-to-face interview. The face-to-face interview may be with several different people over a 2-3 hour block, but it's all done in one day. To drag out the interview process for someone at my level over multiple days is a complete waste of time and resources. Employers who do this clearly have no respect for the time of those they are interviewing.

I also asked them what the next process was in the interview, and the manager I spoke with made it sound like they would be making a final decision in the next week. But today I found out they wanted me to come in for another interview. For what? What the hell could possibly have changed since last week? And if another person needs to interview me, why did they not set up the time that day I took 1/2 day of PTO and came in to their office? Again, this just shows me how deeply inefficient this company is.
