First, I'm not sure if you are meant to follow up after you've sent in an application or simply after you've had an interview. But I thought why the heck not after not hearing anything after sending my application in for my goal job last week.

What do you tend to say when following up by telephone? I usually keep phone conversations short and sweet as I don't normally like small talk on the phone per se, but this tends to make me sound a bit short - tempered in a way, so I think incorporating meaningful small talk *not just about the weather* will help my chances - especially considering this firm's specialties lie in influencing people.

What do you normally say when following up?

Thanks

I don't follow up after submitting an application. After an interview, I have sent a short note.

I've don't know if I've ever followed up after an application. The person who can confirm that they received you application is probably an office worker who has zero influence over the highering process, so don't expect anything other than, "Yes, we received it."

I recommend following up in the everning around 7pm so that the person would get the voicemail first thing in thre morning. You don't want to talk live to a person which maybe arkward for both of you so I would follow up by

voicemail at 7pm after business hours and leave a professional message and restate your interest

by email at 7pm and do the exact same thing.
