Hi everybody

I am European and have recently (april 2014) relocated to LA with my American wife.
I have 5+ years of experience as product marketer&manager for a global corporation.

I will not waste your time explaining why I moved here, what is relevant to mention is the fact that I moved here without having a job lined up.
During these months I have worked as freelance marketer, providing marketing expertise to various clients (Fashion startup, production company, media agency). Clearly they all were small businesses.

After the initial adapting period I feel now ready to proceed with my career and therefore I would like to apply to some positions more consistent with my background.

Do you think that I should insert in the resume my freelance jobs or is better to leave a "blank" period months in my resume ?

Thanks everybody for the help.

If you don't put, you'll have employers questioning the months without a job.
I suppose you could just say that you were doing nothing since you had just relocated to USA and was getting used to this country.

If the freelance jobs helped you gain more experience in the areas for which you wish to apply, I would add them to the resume.

When looking for a job, you try to minimize unemployment time gaps as much as possible. If your time in between jobs is minimal ( half a year or shorter) then it doesn't matter much overall.

It's experience, why would you not put it there?

List every one of them - it shows that others have trusted you to help their business.

Yes, you can group them under the title Independent Consultant.

I have been freelance for 17 years and you can bet my resume comes with a client list attached!

Thanks everybody

following your advices I decided that I will list them under the title Marketing Consultant - Freelance.

I have references and Linkedin recommendation from the business I have helped. I assume it will increase the credibility of my freelance activity.

As Zentropa said, you can list yourself as independent consultant and then list the positions as bullet points underneath it.

This is the best possible solution. Saves time and paper space.
