I've never had that happen before. Is that standard practice? They can check my 2 other employers but I would think my current one would be off limited even after I left. They are not going to be happy I am leaving and will probably fudge the truth.

Is the offer in writing? Do you have a start date? No way I'd give notice without that.

Maybe they can speak to someone in human resources. May not have to be a direct supervisor/manager.

Most companies will only verify title, salary range and dates of employment - which is probably all the hiring company is looking for anyway. It's just a way to confirm you actually worked there in that position.
