I’ve been working at my current job for about 6 months and I feel disappointed in my job. Also, the company’s owners are already planning on moving to a different location which would make my commute longer. I’ve started applying for new jobs. The day after I started applying, the recruiter who placed me at my current job left a message asking how everything was going. I guess I may have applied to something that the staffing agency had posted on a job board...should I call back or should I ignore her message? I’m afraid she might contact my current employer and tell them if that’s the case. If my employer brings it up, what should I do?
Don't ignore the message. Call the recruiter back and see what's up. Before telling her details, ask that the conversation be confidential and that she won't discuss with your current employer. A good recruiter will honor this.
If she agrees: Tell her the update - that the client is moving and your commute would be longer. You're looking for something else because the circumstances changed. You had every intention of sticking around for the long haul, but things have changed.
