Ok I'm not sure if this is a promotion or not. I don't even know how much this job paid but it's back in my hometown which is a good thing. Behavorial interview aka Tell me about a time when. I thought I did ok but wasn't chosen. Now, I've had people who work in the new department tell me I am probably overqualified for this position. I was moving from Help desk work to Quality Assurance coordinator. Now I already do half of the stuff listed in their job description. The interviewing supervisor said next time I need to give more specific details in my answers. I'm an internal candidate. I've been with the company for over 10 years. I know I can do the job but didn't do a great job proving it in my interview. How can i ask for a second chance instead of chalking it up as a loss?
Unfortunately sometimes these things just don't go in your favor.
Internal politics and all.
At one of my previous jobs I'd been at for 12 years, I tried many times to go to other departments. One department was all female, and I knew it was a very long shot. But I still interviewed with them best I could, my background would have been more than ideal for that position based on what I had done so far. Yet they chose to go with another internal female candidate. I was given the usual B.S. fluff ("thank you for interviewing, we decided to go with this person, yada yada yada").
Others in my group were able to transfer to other departments, yet I continued to be turned down even though my work ethic and rep was good. That's one of the reasons why I left that company.
You can't. If we re-interviewed you and gave you a second chance, we would have to re-interview everyone we interviewed. Be happy you were given some feedback on how to improve your answers.
Just keep moving. The more interviews you get, the better you'll get.
