That is fine, but as the candidate, I minimize my time wasted.

I also put the onus on the employer to adhere to what was indicated throughout the process, or fess up that they are truly looking to get better quality than their offer merits.

Then I watch them waste 2 years on their train wreck candidate.

I think what Bob really means...

You accept the low-ball offer with a start date, then just ghost it. Don't show up at all, don't communicate with the company. Let them figure it out. Was I far off from your real thoughts, Bob?

too bad the OP has never come back to say exactly what happened with that offer and whether they ended up at that job or not.
