Has anyone here resorted to looking for a job in Europe or South America? I am wondering if the prospects are better than here in the USA.
If you have, I'd like to hear your experiences.

My wife runs a business in central Asia.

Quite a few expats from all over the world run various little things in other countries.

I know a few people teaching English overseas.

Getting hooked up with an overseas domestic company is a challenge as unemployment rates are already high and you would have to have some excpetional talent, which in that case you would no problems finding employment here.

You can go work in the tourist trade, hotels, bars or something.

Also natural resources, paticularly oil, lots of labor though unless you are an engineer or something.

You haven't told us what your profession is. It makes a difference.

Gas and oil companies frequently post employees overseas. They move around a lot.

The Saudis are always looking for every imaginable kind of employee, skilled labor and professional. The money is amazing.

Teaching English as a foreign language. There is no place in Europe for Americans teaching ESL but plenty of opportunity in the rest of the world.

If you make a move overseas to work you will usually be subjected to a physical and then get a contract, typically for about 2 years. In this way you will also usually get visa support from the hiring company. Without this visa support, going out on your own, it is between difficult and almost impossible to just move to some other country and put together a job and a life.

What kind of education and job skills do you have?

nebulous1, generally speaking, a US citizen isn't eligible to work anywhere in the EU unless either sponsored or with exceptional qualifications which are unable to be met by anyone "local." Same applies to non-US Citizens looking for employment in the USA.
