A wonderful site
I am so sorry that my parents stopped speaking Yiddish when they realized that I was beginning to understand them almost 70 years ago.
I'm sure that I'm not alone.
I recently found a small packet of letters to my mother from my grandmother written in Hebrew. The problem with Jewish education when I was young was we learned Hebrew but never learned to translate.
So, I took the notes to our Rabbi. He couldn't make sense out of them. A much older member of the congregation, a Professor at HUC, asked to see them.
After several minutes, he started to laugh. Seems the letters were Yiddish and English written in Hebrew. He asked if he could take them home. A few weeks later, he gave me a transcript of the translation
They were a terrific look into Mom's and Bubbie's past
Shabbat Shalom
