I'm a single 22 year old male and just accepted a job offer in Riverside, MO. I will be moving to KC next week.

From what I have seen on Craigslist, apartments in the city are fairly affordable. I need to keep my rent under $900 with utilities for a 1 bedroom or studio.

I would really like to be somewhere that I can walk or bus to grocery stores, farmers markets, restaurants, bars, entertainment, etc.. I would also like to be around other young/single professionals. I do plan to drive to work as there doesn't seem to be anywhere to live near where I will be working in Riverside; therefore, I will need parking for my car on site. I would prefer a <15 minute commute, but definitely no longer than 30 minutes.

I looked through this forum and saw some suggestions for the River Market area. It sounds nice and some of the lofts there look pretty cool, but I have never been there so I'm not sure if the area would be a good fit.

Any input and suggestions on other areas to check out would be very much appreciated! I can't wait to become a resident of such a vibrant city!

River Market would be great. Also parts of Downtown like the Library district, Quality Hill, Garment District. Just south of downtown you have options in the Crossroads district and Union Hill and then you have Wesport and the Plaza areas. Quite a bit to choose from really. River market would be closest to Riverside though.

Downtown/River Market makes the most sense.

River Market or Downtown, you everything you mentioned and I am pretty sure the commute will be right around 15-20 minutes

I would agree with the above posters. Given what you're looking for and your commute to Riverside, I think the River Market or possibly Downtown would make a lot of sense.

The River Market area is nice and pretty walkable. A touch sleepy, particularly in the winter months, but I like that area a lot.

Thanks for the recommendation! I see your username, are you an Iowa grad? I graduated from Iowa last May.

I found a place in the Quality Hill District and I am really enjoying it so far. The Quality Hill area fit me a little bit better than the River Market lofts that I looked at. The River Market was just a bit too sleepy for me and seemed just a little too far from the action.

This is great! I'm graduating from Iowa this December, and moving down to KC. I love how many Hawkeyes there are

I accepted a job offer near the plaza area, and from what I've heard that's a great place to live as well.

Anybody know of any good studios/1 BRs near the plaza? I'm looking to spend under 800/mo

Thanks!
