My husband works for Mars and the company has a Nutro plant in KC. We are considering taking a transfer to that plant. What I would like to know is if anyone knows where the plant is? What areas would be good to live that would be a reasonable commute for him to work. We have 3 ages children (9,7,3) and would be looking for an area that is family friendly with parks and recreation activities nearby. Our two oldest are boys and play lots of baseball and our daughter just started dance. I also want good schools and to be close to shopping. We currently live in South Carolina but I was born and raised in California. I don't enjoy SC and will be ecstatic to leave. I love the city but don't need to live in it as long as I am within an easy commute (20-30 min). We also would like to stay under $235,000 for a house. We have two choices between KC and Topeka, Ks and we need help in deciding from people who live there. Thank you for any advice you can give.

Is this the Mars PetCare plant? Do they make Greenies? I want to say the location is around Chouteau Tfwy. and Front St. in Kansas City, Missouri, but I'm not sure. That would allow you a nice commute from Liberty, Gladstone, or Kansas City north of the river, which fit all of your criteria.

that the plant is located at 1513 Chouteau Trafficway, which means anywhere in the Northland would be a good place to start your home search -- Gladstone would be a solid choice.
I would definitely prefer to live in Kansas City as opposed to Topeka, that's for sure.

There is a Nutro plant in the E Bottoms industrial district but not sure if that is only one.

This is just NE of downtown. Check out Parkville/Riverside area to the NW of this area, well under 20 minutes away. Liberty area too. Barry Rd area in KC North.

I posted on your Kansas post that the KC plant is at 1350 N. Chouteau in what is called the "East Bottoms" of Kansas City, MO (east of downtown, near the Missouri River). I'd suggest looking in Clay or Platte County, Missouri. Good schools and you'll be able to find nice houses in your price range. Keep in mind none of Kansas City, MO in Clay and Platte County is in the notoriously-bad Kansas City School District but rather in the North Kansas City, Liberty or Park Hill District for the most part.

As I have been doing more research I was wondering if Lee's Summit would be a choice. It seems like the schools are good. I wondered because no one suggested it. So is it to far of a commute? I do like Liberty and I haven't checked Gladstone yet so I will. I just want to have a few choices since we will most likely rent first but I don't want to have to change my kids to another district if possible. I really thank you for all your input. I do want family friendly also with great parks. Where we are now we can't even ride our bikes safely so I look forward to that.

There are some Lee's Summit boosters around here - I'm sure they'll chime in. To me, the advantage of your living in "the Northland" (i.e., anything North of the Missouri River) vs. Lees Summit would be the commute. Don't know if your husband travels for work but airport convenience would be another BIG factor.
