I don't think there will be any 18,500 seat venues used for world cup. Lots of cities have MLS stadiums now and I would guess if those cities play host to the World Cup, they will be using their NFL stadiums.

I could be wrong, but that seems logical to me.

If for some reason, capacity is not an issue, than yea, Sporting Park would be a great venue for soccer.
That's about the same capacity as the soccer stadium here in Denver. If the World Cup came to the U.S., I think it would be in a "tier 1" city. And really, how hard is it to convert a football stadium into a soccer stadium? Just re-paint the lines?? Football stadiums hold more like 75K people, so I'm sure it would have to be in a football stadium. At least in Denver there are thousands of hotel rooms near Mile High stadium. What's hotels are near Arrowhead?

The problem is the size not the lines. American Football fields are generally smaller than soccer pitches (by about 10 yards both in length in width) its a complaint even in the MLS when playing in stadiums like Century Link. And the MLS are supposed to be making a conscious move to move teams away from non soccer-specific stadiums. They're of course failing and anytime someone flashes large wads of money in front of their face (cough cough why New York is getting a second team homed in Yankee stadium) they tend to bend the rules.

I'd imagine it would also cause quite a bit of controversy with FIFA forcing struggling nations to spend billions to update their stadiums and constantly denying countries like Italy bids because their stadiums are "dated" and then granting the US the World Cup to be played in stadiums not even built for Football.

I also highly doubt we'll get the 2022 bid even if Qatar loss it.

Cuz it's the World Cup and the stadiums need to hold 50-80k people?

I'm of the mind that the Kansas Speedway could hold the stadium, the entire middle of the track is a big grass field anyways there's shopping/casino and hotel (I think, I forget if there is a hotel at casino, maybe not). It's near enough to airport too (or as close as any of the other options). And it's out of the way so local traffic won't get affected too much. And hey, they can develop the area for it too.

not to mention the "business" friendly state couldn't use the extra taxes either

maybe even keep holding the racing events around the soccer field? give fans something extra to watch?
