Hi all,

My wife is originally from Kansas City. We now live in Alabama. My wife's mother has breast cancer. She is also having open heart surgery this Monday. So, we'd like to help them out from a distance and make Thanksgiving a little easier on them. Can anyone suggest a place that is good and will allow us to pre-order Thanksgiving dinner? We'd like to call them in the next week or so and let them know what we'd like (i.e. - Turkey, Ham, fixings) and we'll have my wife's sister pick it up the day before Thanksgiving.

Any suggestions? I know that here in Alabama Cracker Barrel and numerous BBQ joints do this type of thing. Thanks in advance.

Anthony

I'm not sure about restaurants that do that, but the local grocery stores do that - Hen House, Hy-Vee, Whole Foods.

Also, Honey Baked Ham has ham and turkey and then frozen sides and rolls you can buy to go with it.

^I second Hen House. I recall them having offered that deal in prior years.

If you want to eat out, my family used to do Thanksgiving Dinner at the Doubletree Hotel in Overland Park. I believe it was about $25 per person. The casino buffets offer a similar deal, but the Doubletree, along with any restaurants that offer the same, will provide a nicer experience.

golden ox has their thanksgiving buffet, it's pretty good, been there twice in the past. But I'm not sure all that meat is good for a heart surgery patient :S Or rather anything traditionally thanksgiving dinner since it's normally high fat/calories A Patient's Guide to Heart Surgery: Diet and Nutrition though I'm only able to reference internet for the info (nothing first hand info/not a doc)

Some churches have them too (both as fund raiser and to help community)
I think Churches chicken has a deep fried chicken? Some fast food chicken place anyways but I don't think it was KFC

and then the "traditional" chinese restaurants will be open since their competition (american restaurants) normally close

There is a Cracker Barrel in Olathe and maybe they do that. You might call them and ask.

There are several restaurants that have a Thanksgiving buffet (one is Gaslight Grill in Overland Park). I wonder if one of the restaurants that have a buffet, but not necessarily carryout, might let you take food to go if you explained the circumstances.
