KCK casino gets final state approval - KansasCity.com (http://www.kansascity.com/842/story/1743976.html - broken link)

With everything they have going on out there, why is the concept for this so incredibly boring looking. Also it sounds like it's smaller then the current casinos built.... Not positive, but it's definitely smaller then Ameristar.

This based on a sketch? Doesn't look any more or less exciting than any other casino in the area.

Do you ever have anything nice to say? Didn't your mother ever advise you about that?

Google image search the others. Isle of Capri is the most bland... The others way better looking. Why you getting uptight just cuz I said it's unimpressive ? I hope it ends up better then the sketch

Doesn't matter what it looks like, it will have a closer\better location and will likely do very very well. I don't know if they will be able to pry the regular gamblers away from the other places in the area but I've been to Ameristar a few times and it's a complete PAIN to get to.

None of the casinos in the area are much to look at, really. I'm not sure that spectacle is the draw for most patrons...it's not like it's Vegas.

I think it looks terrible. I was excited about some of the original proposals. Most looked pretty cool with large hotels and entertainment areas attached. The Hard Rock and Sands and Pinical casinos all looked pretty sweet. This looks like just another little Midwestern Indian casino tacked onto the side of the speedway. It looks horrible. Much like the Flamingo/Hilton/Isle of Crap near Downtown.

We enjoy going to a casino once in a while, but the only one we ever liked was Ameristar and even it is not what I would call a “destination” casino, but it would cost close to a billion dollar to recreate Ameristar today so this casino is very small in comparison.

Blame it on the economy I guess, but this casino looks to be a dud so far.

BTW, closer to who? Ameristar and Harrahs both have nearly a million people within 20 minutes of them. Harrahs’ is probably closer to 1.5 million. The speedway has about half that within 20 minutes (which includes most of JoCo).

What the speedway location has is other places nearby to dine, shop, see a movie etc. So maybe the actual casino doesn’t have to be a large destination type casino. But I just thought KCK would do a lot better than that if they are going to attach it to the speedway.

What a shock

FWIW, I don't actually care very much one way or the other, but it's amusing to watch you and skrizzle bash something that hasn't even been built yet! You guys never quit!

Also, if you read the article:

Quote:
Phase one of the development plan includes a 100,000-square-foot casino with 2,300 slot machines and 86 table games, restaurants, a lounge and more. Phase two includes a hotel, spa, convention center, expanded gaming area and retail area.
That area is becoming somewhat of a regional destination spot. Seems like a good thing for KCK and the metro as a whole. But don't worry, I won't hold my breath for either of you to have something positive to say about anything that happens in KS.

Whatever. It's lame. It's more than lame. Even the full build out is less than half the project that most the original proposals are.

This would have been freaking sweet.....Oh well.

Other proposals now gone:

Instead, they are getting this:

Lame.

What they are getting is phase one, a casino. It looks like a casino. The first sets of your pictures are showing complete complexes with hotels, retail, etc. in addition to the casino.

If it's successful, I'm sure they will add on around it. But as a casino, it's no more or less lame than any other casino in the area.

Then you will be griping because they are adding more stuff to that area instead of revitalizing the "urban core" of KCK.
