I live in Southeast Kansas, and I am wondering when/if there will be fireflies this year. We moved here in 2015 and it seems like they are usually out by now. I have never lived anywhere that had them, so I really enjoy them. Any opinions?

We live in central KS. We usually see a few in town, but haven't so far this year. I wonder though if it is the weather, as nights have been cooler than the last couple years that we have been here. Also, bugs/insects like the warmer and damp weather in general. It is dry up here, and we have to constantly fill a birdbath with the crowd we have, a bigger crowd than last year. Drought is not a good thing.

I finally saw a couple in our front yard the other night. One was in our living room last night, but I never saw it light up. I was much happier to see that than the cicada in my kitchen window.

We don't have cicada, "yet". I do not care for them at all, and I do like some insects. We had a yellow lab, and every time they came into the area where we lived, on our walks, she would try to eat them. I didn't think that was a good idea, so I told her to spit it out, she resisted but if I were quick, she didn't eat it. Maybe we are missing something delicious by not eating them too, as she really hated to give them up.
